Smithy and the Grandfather Clock

Smithy spent the first night at their grandfather's house
Marching up to bed and creeping back down like a mouse
To the almighty sound of a melody of bells
Chiming a tune from the old grandfather clock that struck twelve

Watching the clock break its own hands was quite a sight
Poor little Smithy nearly died of fright
And as time stopped on the thirteenth beat
Water poured from nowhere right over their feet

Then without warning, the old clock slid onto its back
Sweeping Smithy right off their feet with a crack
Smithy used the brass pendulum as an oar
And steered them straight through the front door

Travelling at high speeds on the old clock
To where the pirates are known to dock
Adventure was waiting for their arrival
Could those flags in the distance be ally or rival?

The sea was choppy as the flags got closer
Smithy ducked for cover as salty water spilled over
And as they got stuck among the rocks
It seemed there were others that sailed on clocks

The pirates from shore must see where they are
For cannon balls dropped near and far
'You must be Smithy,' hollered a boy.
'Don’t mind them; they're just trying to take away our joy!'

'How is any of this possible?!' shouted back Smithy.
'We're the new generation of timekeepers, silly.'
'I don’t even know what that means?!'
'All will be revealed in your dreams.'

Smithy watched as the clock mended its own hands
And turned itself away from distant lands
It tick-tocked as it capsized, sending them overboard
Only to open their eyes to find the grandfather clock restored

Smithy spent the first night at their grandfather's house
Rubbing the bump on their head before creeping up to bed like a mouse
As they drifted off to sleep, the grandfather clock chimed
Awakening the cuckoo inside the young timekeeper's mind
